If you were not yet aware, the biggest, most advanced and largest Disney expansion ever to be done will be opening at the Disneyland Resort in Disneyland Park on August 29, 2019! This new addition to the park is the one and only Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! This new land which is a total of 14 acres will bring about new rides, new dining offerings and new shopping experiences from the Star Wars Universe in a whole new way never been done before! With so much coming to this new land, one can be quite overwhelmed! So, to help alleviate some of that stress, here is a guide to the force: all you need to know about Galaxy’s Edge!
Before visiting this one-of-a-kind land at Disneyland, you may want to know a little history or well the backstory of the land. For starters, the actual ‘name’ of the land is Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. However, while the land itself is called that, in the Star Wars Lore, that is not where you are traveling to. In the story, you are traveling to Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu. When creating a land set in the Star Wars Universe, Imagineers didn’t want to recreate a place like Tatooine or Hoth or even Coruscant, but instead, they wanted to create a new place where you could live your own story, your own adventure!
As such, they came up with a remote village in the outer rim outskirts of the galaxy called Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu! Black Spire Outpost is famous for its ‘black spires’ that surround the land and is home to smugglers, pirates, rogue traders, bounty hunters, opportunists, and even con artists. It is also the home of the new Rebel base; however, the Rebels must weary as the First Order has followed them to this remote planet keeping a watchful eye on them! All in all, it is a land unlike any other filled with details and will allow you to live your own Star Wars Adventure!
As with any land, there are always going to be some form of shopping experiences. On Black Spire Outpost, there are 8 shops in total! You have Black Spire Outfitters; Creature Stall; Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities; Droid Depot; First Order Cargo; Resistance Supply; Savi’s Workshop, and Toydarian Toymaker. To get an idea of what you can expect from each of these shops, here are their official descriptions as described by Disneydown below:
Black Spire Outfitters

“At this exotic shop, you’re free to explore as you peek into cages and crates filled with hard-to-find fuzz balls from across the galaxy. Bina, the stall’s proprietor, scours star systems to keep this storefront stocked with unique companions for her customers. Marvel at a large collection of cackling Kowakian monkey-lizards, the rambunctious pets popular with shadowy underworld figures—including Hutts. Most of the creatures here are available for purchase (restrictions may apply to rathtars.)”
Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities
“Hidden inside the den, you’ll encounter a rotating collection of unique items that include everything from jewelry, to ancient tools, to rare kyber crystals, to statues—and even a collection of famous lightsabers. The eclectic assortment of goods comes from many different planets and eras. You’ll want to explore every nook and cranny of the shop—who knows what priceless riches you’ll uncover. How Dok-Ondar acquired all these treasures, no one knows. Some secrets are better off kept that way. Other secrets are better off kept for sale on the shelves of Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities.”
“Visit a workshop stocked with parts, chips, manuals and other tech items useful for constructing your very own droid, one of the galaxy’s most indispensable sidekicks. First, register your choice of the BB-series unit or R-series unit with the clerk, who’ll provide a basket and blueprint for parts. Next, proceed to the following stations and begin your droid-building experience!”
First Order Cargo
“The First Order has recently arrived in Black Spire Outpost in pursuit of the Resistance. Report for duty and make your way to Docking Bay 9 where the First Order has set up a temporary post next to their shuttle to win the hearts and minds of the locals. Browse for gear and other products to show your support for the First Order.”
“Rendezvous with other Resistance allies in a forested area near the ancient ruins. There, members of the Resistance have set up a secret makeshift post where you can join the cause to defeat the First Order. Stock up on essential gear and supplies so you’re prepared for your next mission, wherever it may take you!”
“Travel to Black Spire Outpost, where a group known as the “Gatherers” ushers you into a covert workshop packed with unusual parts, whimsical pieces and miscellaneous memorabilia collected from the far reaches of the galaxy. Under their guidance, you can construct your very own lightsaber and bring it to life through the power of kyber crystals. Builders beware—you must protect the shop’s secrecy to avoid being discovered by the First Order!”
“No galactic traveler should return home empty-handed. Here in this humble, jumbled shop, you’ll find all manner of artisanal playthings and collectibles handmade by the busy toymaker, Zabaka the Toydarian. Her fantastical storefront is cluttered with crates of toymaking supplies and other unique works in progress—including a tauntaun rocking horse. Zabaka’s silhouette is often visible through the frosted back window of her workshop as she flits around crafting Wookiee dolls and classic games like chance cubes and sabacc. Keep your young crewmembers entertained on the long space flight home with trinkets to treasure from Toydarian Toymaker!”

The very last thing you must know about Black Spire Outpost is the attractions. You simply could not have a Disney Park without any rides, and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is no exception. While there are only two actual rides in the land, there is technically a third attraction that isn’t a ride. You have Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and the Play Disney Parks App. The first attraction, Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, will place you into the cockpit of the most famous and fastest ship in the galaxy where you are in control! Every choice you make matters and every decision, good or bad, will have dire consequences! The second attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, will not open until later in 2019, but, it will be the most advanced, longest, and craziest ride ever built in a Disney theme park!
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will put you right into the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance in a way never done before or seen! With the last ‘attraction’, it is not a ride but more of an interactive experience. This third attraction is known as the Play Disney Parks App. With it, you will be able to do a whole slew of interactions within the land such as going on missions for the First Order, Resistance, or maybe even a bounty hunter; hack into control panels and switches; listen in on the transmissions between the First Order and Resistance; and so much more! No matter what you do in the land whether that be you ride Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, grab a bite to eat at Ronto Roasters, build a lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop, pick up some clothing at Resistance Supply, play on the Play Disney Parks App or maybe even do all of these, you will be sure to have an amazing time on the planet of Batuu in Black Spire Outpost!
